Workshop: Breakin’ It Down
We will be breaking glass and ceramic to make mosaics! Learn the vocabulary, tools and see examples. Then take that knowledge and make your own mosaic. Get the pieces glued down today and take some grout to complete at home.

Workshop:Painting Nature in Gouache
Participants will learn how to use gouache (rhymes with squash) to paint nature. Gouache is a water-based, nontoxic medium that is very versatile. It can be thinned and used like watercolor, or applied thickly like oils. It dries with a beautiful matte finish and is great for sketchbook work and travel. We will discuss the pros and cons of the medium, the difference between regular and acrylic gouache, different brands, and best practices for storing and extending paint life. Techniques and methods will be explored through painting a landscape and/or a bird.
MATERIALS to bring: Holbein CMYK set of regular gouache paint (or your own) Holbein gouache set, Set of short-handle synthetic paint brushes (these are great for what we are doing), Airtight paint palette box Airtight stay wet palette and paint saver just in case), Watercolor sketchbook or watercolor block/paper, Artist tape, pencil, rag or paper towels, water cup & small spritz bottle, Nature Reference material options.

Workshop: Mad Science Monotypes
We will discover how to use upcycled materials ( Such as tetra pak soup cartons produce net bags) to make distinctive monotypes.
MATERIALS: Most of these items you will have at home or in your classroom. Apron, Matboard ( various rectangles or squares, Scissors, Exacto knife, hole punch, Black oil paint or oil based printing ink (colors are optional-bring if you have them), Permanent sealant such as Modge podge or gloss varnish, Sponge brush or inexpensive flat brush, Quick drying glue/ glue stick, Plastic or rubber gloves. Rags, Roll of paper towels or baby wipes, 2-4 sheets of 120+ lb. printmaking paper or watercolor paper, Hot glue gun, modeling paste and palette knife, Variety of textured items: tape, sandpaper(various grades), foil, perforated ribbon, cheesecloth, burlap or loose woven thin fabric, produce netting, tagboard, yarn... anything else textured you want to bring that might be interesting to try.

Workshop: Geometric Interplay: Mixed Media 3D Illustrations on Cardboard
This workshop will model the process of environmental artist Faith Williams Dyrsten building a cardboard illustration from start-to-finish. Inspired by native plants and pollinators, her artwork plays with geometric patterns interacting with organic elements. Participants will have the opportunity to draw their own subjects, learn pattern transfer techniques, use X-acto blades to add negative space, and then bring their own illustrations to life by layering paints and colored pencils.
MATERIALS Provided: Cardboard, Basic pencils, colored pencils and sketching tools, Basic acrylic paints and brushes, Scissors, X-acto knives and cutting mats, Some wood panels available for purchase.
Materials to Bring: Bring your own wood cradle panel (2” depth). Recommend 16x20” size or smaller. (Some panels will be available for $$ purchase.)If you have a favorite type of acrylic paint, brushes, colored pencils, or sketching tools – bring yours to use!

Workshop - Rock to Radiance: Intro to Lapidary
Discover the beauty of stones through creating finished cabochons that can be bezel set or wire wrapped. Learn how to cut, shape, and polish a stone. You will start from slabs and use a diamond saw and lapidary equipment to shape and highly polish the stones for a finished cabochon. No experience needed. Stone slabs are provided.
Materials to bring: A variety of slabs will be available. However, if you have your own slabs that you want to bring in that is fine too.
Materials Fee is $10: This covers the stone slabs.
